Standing calf raise: how to do it with good form
The standing calf raise trains the calves — with straight legs, mostly the large gastrocnemius.
How to do it
- 1
Place the balls of your feet on a step or plate, heels free.
- 2
Keep your legs straight but not locked.
- 3
Rise as high onto your toes as you can and pause at the top.
- 4
Lower your heels slowly below the step for a full stretch.
Common mistakes
- Bouncing at the bottom.
- A short range, only halfway up.
- Bending the knees to get the weight up.
