Incline dumbbell press: how to do it with good form

The incline dumbbell press trains the upper chest with more freedom of movement than the barbell version.

How to do it

  1. 1

Set the bench to 30–45 degrees and sit with a dumbbell on each thigh.

  2. 2

Lie back and bring the dumbbells up to shoulder height.

  3. 3

Press up until your arms are straight above your upper chest.

  4. 4

Lower with control until the dumbbells are level with your chest.

Common mistakes

  • A bench that is too steep.
  • Elbows flared straight out.
  • Arching the back too much.
