Bent-over dumbbell row: how to do it with good form

The bent-over dumbbell row builds a strong back with two dumbbells and trains the trunk to hold the position.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand with feet hip-width apart, a dumbbell in each hand.

  2. 2

Hinge forward with a flat back until your torso is almost parallel to the floor, knees slightly bent.

  3. 3

Row the dumbbells towards your lower stomach, elbows close to your body.

  4. 4

Lower under control until your arms are straight.

Common mistakes

  • Rounding the back.
  • Jerking the weights up with momentum from the legs.
  • Pulling to the chest instead of the stomach.
