Dumbbell Romanian deadlift: how to do it with good form
The dumbbell Romanian deadlift trains the hamstrings and glutes and is a simple way to learn the hip hinge.
How to do it
- 1
Stand with feet hip-width, a dumbbell in each hand in front of your thighs.
- 2
Soften your knees and push your hips back.
- 3
Lower the dumbbells along your legs until you feel a stretch in your hamstrings.
- 4
Drive your hips forward to stand back up.
Common mistakes
- Rounding the back as the dumbbells go down.
- Bending the knees so much it becomes a squat.
- Dumbbells drifting away from the legs.
