Romanian deadlift: how to do it with good form

The Romanian deadlift focuses on the hamstrings and glutes. The movement is a hip hinge with nearly straight legs and a controlled lowering.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand tall holding the bar, knees slightly bent.

  2. 2

Push your hips back and lower the bar along your legs.

  3. 3

Stop when you feel a strong stretch in your hamstrings, back still flat.

  4. 4

Drive your hips forward to stand up.

Common mistakes

  • Bending the knees into a squat.
  • Rounding the back to reach lower.
