Single-leg Romanian deadlift: how to do it with good form

The single-leg Romanian deadlift trains the hamstrings, glutes and balance — especially good for runners.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand on one leg with a dumbbell in the opposite hand and a soft knee.

  2. 2

Hinge forward at the hip and let the free leg travel straight back.

  3. 3

Lower until your torso is almost parallel to the floor or you feel a stretch in the hamstring.

  4. 4

Stand up by driving the hip forward, and switch legs after all reps.

Common mistakes

  • Hip rotating open to the side.
  • Rounding the back.
  • Bending the standing leg so much it becomes a squat.
