Trap bar deadlift: how to do it with good form

The trap bar deadlift is easier to learn than a straight-bar deadlift and kinder to the lower back, because the load sits in line with the body.

How to do it

  1. 1

Stand in the middle of the trap bar with feet hip-width.

  2. 2

Hinge at the hips and bend the knees to grip the handles with a flat back.

  3. 3

Brace and push the floor away until you stand tall.

  4. 4

Lower with control back to the floor.

Common mistakes

  • Rounding the back.
  • Jerking the weight off the floor.
  • Leaning back at the top.
